Summary:
Lina's mom has just died from pancreatic cancer, and her one dying wish is for Lina to go to Italy to spend the summer with her mother's best friend, Howard, who also happens to be the father she has never met. Once there she receives her mother's journal from when she spent her time in Italy. Lina also meets the outgoing and spontaneous Ren who helps her navigate the journal of her mother's secret life right before she got pregnant with Lina.
My Thoughts:
I started this book on my car ride home and I flew through it in 2 days.
I loved Ren so damn much. He said whatever the hell he wanted and most of the time it was so bizarre and I just want to be his best friend. Here is an example when Ren is telling Lina about how he thinks his parents are complete opposites:
"I have no idea how they ended up together. You know those weird animal friendship videos, where a bear and a duck become best friends? They're kind of like that." pg 74
Yeah, I love Italians.
Lina is a huge lover of foods and it was so refreshing to see a teenage girl MC who didn't give a damn about how much food she wanted to eat in front of people. I mean she had 4 scoops of gelato and didn't even care. She did whatever she wanted and I kind of loved her.
Lina was kind of annoying about some things in the book, especially at the beginning when she wouldn't even give Howard a chance.
There is also a mystery vibe throughout the whole story which made it really addicting and fun trying to figure it out.

I loved the part that family had in this story. I don't want to give any spoilers about anything so I'll just leave it at that.
I absolutely adored the setting in this book. I really want to go to Italy now and get some gelato. Like the descriptions of the places she went were so breathtaking to read about. Can I travel the whole world now?
I also liked hearing the stories/myths said throughout the story based on the historical places they went to. It's another reason I loved Howard because he kind of reminded me of myself.
I actually really enjoyed this book and it made me smile at times (Ren) and get teary-eyed (Lina's mom) at others. I liked the writing and the humor and almost all of the characters. There wasn't much character development, given it takes place over a span of a week or two.
I gave this book a 4/5 stars!
