Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag

I saw my favorite booktubers do this all of June and thought I would give it a try! Also I have read 41 books so far this year! I wasn't tagged but I saw the questions on YA Bookaholic's blog, so go and check her out by clicking on her blog name!

1. Best Book You've Read So Far In 2017?

I have to give this to Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare. This book is absolutely amazing and it makes me so happy. The Blackthorn family are my actual children and I care for them so much words can't describe.

2. Best Sequel You've Read So Far In 2017?

The best sequel I've read is by far Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare. These books are already the best of Cassandra Clare's work because of the creepiness, maturity of the writing, and the best damn characters I've ever read about. I highly recommend reading The Dark Artifices if you thought TMI was okay. It has amazing action, shadowhunters, Ty Blackthorn, mystery, and more Ty Blackthorn.

3.New Release You Haven't Read Yet, But Want To?

I have wanted to get to Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde. I have heard of all the LGTBQ+ representation from emmabooks and it has made me want to read it more. I'm also really into the whole comic book convention idea.

4. Most Anticipated Release For Second Half of 2017?

I just recently found out that John Green has a new book coming out in October! I'm so excited for Turtles All The Way Down by him. I have no clue what it's about but I'm going to be at Barnes & Nobles on release day so watch out for a review.

5. Biggest Disappointment?

I know a lot of people will probably want to throw tomatoes at me after this but I was very disappointed in The Shining by Stephen King. I know I know. Now, I took this book with me on vacation to Florida and the book takes place in the middle of winter. I understand that it's suppose to have a creepy vibe to it but I just wasn't thrilled or scared at all. It might have been the wrong place/time for me to read it but I don't know if I will reread in the future.

6. Biggest Surprise?

The biggest surprise for me was The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman. My grandmother actually lent me this book and was encouraging me to read because she loved it. I thought it was going to be some sappy romance but I liked the story throughout. It was quite heartbreaking and I liked the story. I'll be getting the movie at my local library soon so if I like it, I will do an adaptation review.

7. Favorite New Author?

My favorite new author has to be Nina LaCour. I've only read Everything Leads To You by her but her writing has so much of an effect on me it's insane. I will be buying more of her books in the future.

8. Newest Fictional Crush?

Julian Blackthorn, from the Dark Artifices Trilogy by Cassandra Clare, takes the cake. Julian is such a complex character where we see this unwavering devotion and love towards his family/Emma but will do anything (like really anything) to save/protect them. I'm very concerned we're going to see a very dark Julian in the next book.

9. Newest Favorite Character?

I really liked Sam from Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver. I did have some problems with this book, but Sam really pulled through in the end. This is the best character development I have ever seen in a book, hands down.

10. Book That Made You Cry?

A book that made me cry was Night by Elie Wiesel. This was actually a required reading in school and it was one of the hardest books I have ever had to read. This is a true story and I had to remind myself throughout how lucky I am.

11. Book That Made You Happy?

A book that made me happy was Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon. I loved Maddie and Olly's relationship so much and it made me so happy to see Maddie really connect with someone. Even though I disagreed with some of Maddie's decisions that she made once she met Olly, this was a very beautiful story.

12. Favorite Book to Movie Adaptation You Saw This Year?

The best one this year was Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. I read this book years ago and Hannah's story has always stuck with me. The adaptation was pretty loyal to the book and the actor for Clay Jensen was pretty accurate in my mind. I loved the whole message behind the book of "what you say to people can affect them in ways you don't even know".

13. Favorite Review You've Written This Year?

I haven't made one yet, but I am currently reading Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. Once I finish I will have a book review and an adaptation review, because I know I'll binge watch it after I finish the book.

14. Most Beautiful Book You Bought So Far This Year?

This has to go to Challenger Deep by Neal Shusterman. I got the hardcover for $3 on bookoutlet and when it arrived at my house, I was stunned by how pretty it was. I read Neal Shusterman's Unwind Dystology last year and I heard Challenger Deep was a mental health book, so I was intrigued. It was surprisingly not a cover buy.

15. What Books Do You Need To Read By The End of The Year?

I have a lot that I want to get to by the end of the year so I'll just list a few:

  • Finishing Heroes of Olympus/Magnus Chase/Trials of Apollo by Rick Riordan
  • Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling
  • Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J. Maas
  • A Court of Thorns and Roses Series by Sarah J. Maas
  • The Lord of The Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien
  • Game of Thrones Series by George R.R. Martin
  • Room by Emma Donoghue
  • Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas
  • Bloodlines Series by Richelle Mead
